Philosophy

Natural products that communicate sustainability and care for your children's skin.

Did you know that an ever-increasing percentage of hospital-acquired illnesses affecting our skin result from dermal sensitivity to toxic products used at various stages of clothing manufacture?

The way towards health also goes through the fabrics we wear.

Nowadays, it is important for everyone to be aware when making their choices.

We bring beauty to what is healthy

With a magic wand, we make clothes that are first of all healthy and wholesome and are beautiful, comfortable and an expression of Italian design and style.

In doing our work, we constantly research the combination between health and beauty, simplicity and elegance, comfort, and sophistication. We believe this union embodies the mission of the project “beautiful is healthy, healthy is beautiful”.

The project

Our goal: health first

We bring beauty to what is healthy

In doing our work, we constantly research the combination between health and beauty, simplicity and elegance, comfort, and sophistication. We believe this union embodies the mission of the project “beautiful is healthy, healthy is beautiful”.

The choice: natural yarns only

Everything starts from the original idea of choosing 100 % organic cotton to protect and preserve our environment and our children’s health.
From the very beginning we pursued the basic idea of choosing a fair-trade model for the full respect of man, and it naturally developed into the research and use of other new and natural yarns, such as hemp, linen, Tencel and natural viscose.
For the cold season, we are particularly keen on the finest yarns, all 100% natural, such as merino wool and cashmere, extending our style range.

Made in Italy is our priority

We select fabrics offered by leading Italian companies, who have made the quality of the product their key assets. The textile industry’s experience in Italy is a fantastic heritage that should not be lost, but instead consciously rediscovered, in order to understand the true difference often lying behind the economic value of materials.

We carefully select materials and accessories

Our choices are guided by curiosity and the willingness to offer new solutions and materials. We use selected yarns to create exclusive fabrics and we always process them using dyeing and finishing techniques that are sustainable and safe for the skin.
All the accessories we choose to complete the models, such as buttons, plates, labels, embroideries, feature a detox nature (to make them we eliminate any polluting element for the environment or toxic for the body) and Italian stylistic beauty.
The result is a fine, beautiful product with highly valuable intrinsic qualities.

Organic cotton

Comparing traditional and organic cotton

Who never thought that wearing 100% cotton clothing meant wearing the most natural fabric on the market?

Reality, however, seems to be quite different.

Cotton is the world’s most widely produced textile fibre and meets 47% of the world’s fibre requirements. 2.4 % of agricultural land is devoted to cotton cultivation, and 25 % of the world’s chemical pesticides are poured on it.

The use of such substances has several side effects on both the environment and human beings:

  • it decreases soil fertility
  • it pollutes groundwater
  • it reduces the planet’s biodiversity
  • it damages farmers’ health

The use of chemicals does not end with the cultivation stage alone. Once cotton is transformed into fibre and thus into fabric, it is bleached, washed with detergents, dyed (many dyes contain heavy metals and chemicals that do not dissolve in water and being fat-soluble, are absorbed by the skin), polished and, in order to be well presented to the consumer, treated with substances such as formaldehyde, ammonia, plastic resins, etc.*

The result is a textile product that, mainly due to the dyes used, tends to retain heat, therefore it does not allow the skin to breathe properly; this can create the conditions for dermatitis and skin disorders, especially in particularly sensitive individuals.

Without considering the harmful impact on the environment!

When we buy a cotton T-shirt, let us wonder about the meaning of the word ‘pure cotton’.

Organic cotton, on the other hand, is totally natural: pleasantly soft, more resistant over time, and ensures proper skin transpiration. As its fibres have not absorbed chemicals, they keep their original qualities unchanged.

Organic cotton

Organic, sometimes also biodynamic, cotton is produced using natural methods and substances that do not harm the environment. Basically, no GMO seeds are used.

In this perspective, organic cotton production involves:

  • the use of fertilisers of animal and plant origin
  • the elimination of pests through the use of antagonistic insects
  • weed removal by tractors, hoes or by hand
  • the exclusive use of seed that has undergone at least four germinations without chemical treatments
  • the organic certification of cotton is only awarded after three consecutive years of cultivation without the use of chemicals

Certification authorities periodically carry out rigorous checks.
No substances with an environmental impact are used in weaving, dyeing, finishing, etc.: heavy metals and aromatic amines are banned in dyeing; neither formaldehyde nor plastic resins are used in finishing.
The white colour fabric is obtained using peroxide, so avoiding bleaching agents.
The philosophy of organic living and working is based on the principle of working with and not against nature.

For the cold season we prefer the finest yarns, 100% natural, such as merino wool and cashmere, extending the range of our style.

We prefer natural and certified yarns for the well-being of the skin as well as the environment.

Filobio directly controls its supply chain, from the selection of yarn and fabric suppliers to the collaboration with the most experienced Italian tailoring laboratories.

We only produce in Italy, and we prefer Made in Italy fabrics.

Supply chain

Speaking about threads...

Filobio's supply chain is short and easy to control.

We produce in Italy

We have decided to only manufacture in Italy ourselves and in collaboration with small but skilled craftspeople who make our models with the care and attention that quality products deserve.

Short and safe supply chain

We prefer Italian fabrics and yarns, so we can be sure that they comply with safety and health criteria (REACH Regulation compliance) and that workers’ human rights are respected.

Materials and accessories

For wools and yarns of animal origin in general, we only select products that have the appropriate certification against animal mistreatment for the animals supplying the fleece (mulesing free, cruelty free).

We always choose fabrics produced with natural and certified yarns, for the well-being of the skin as well as the environment. We also pay great attention to the accessories we use in our products; buttons and applications are always natural such as hemp, corozo, mother-of-pearl.

Certified
Yarns and
Fabrics

To create our products, we select certified raw materials that guarantee quality and health.

Certifications concern fabrics, yarns and accessories such as buttons and packaging.

Fabric and yarn certifications

BCI: Better Cotton Initiative, a global non-profit organisation, is the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI aims to transform cotton production worldwide by tackling the negative impacts of cotton cultivation and processing. As a BCI member, Coats is part of a global community sharing this commitment. Through its work with a wide range of stakeholders along the supply chain, BCI promotes ongoing improvements with measurable benefits to the environment, farming communities and the economies of cotton producing areas.

GOTS: The Global Organic Textile Standard is a non-profit certification promoted by leading international organic farming organisations to ensure responsible and sustainable development in the textile industry.

MULESING FREE: Mulesing is a surgical operation involving the removal of a portion of skin from sheep’s perianal area; in Australia it is a common practice in the prevention of serious infections due to fly larvae. While the operation saves the animal’s life, it is also a very painful instrument for the animal. In the past this may have been justifiable, but it is no longer ethically acceptable today, given new solutions that, even if more expensive, ensure the same result without causing the animal any suffering.

ECOTEC: is an exclusive Marchi & Fildi process that turns pre-consumer scraps (production waste from weaving or knitting mills) into beautiful new, brightly coloured yarns. All yarns result in considerable savings, in terms of environmental pollution, with up to 46.6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, 46.9% in energy savings, and 61.6% in water consumption throughout the production chain.
